Commenting after challenging the Cabinet Secretary for Finance on the Local Government Finance Settlement in the Scottish Parliament today, Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP said:
"The Scottish Government has failed local businesses in Scotland.
"Business rates bills have increased but the Scottish Government abandoned any transitional relief scheme for these hard hit businesses.
"80% of rated businesses in Scotland are appealing their rates bills - surely this is proof enough that businesses have been let down by this administration.
"Retailers in Scotland face further consternation by plans announced by the Scottish Government to introduce a large retail levy.
"Introducing a Princes Street penalty will do nothing to instil confidence in businesses that the SNP is on their side."
