Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Tavish Scott MSP challenged the First Minister to keep Scotland moving during the winter weather.

Speaking at First Minister's Questions, Mr Scott said that all Scottish airports should have winter contingency plans.

Edinburgh airport has been closed for three days in a row.

Commenting, Mr Scott said:

"We need to keep people, goods and emergency services moving. We need a review of Scotland's ability to tackle winter conditions, particularly as the capital's airport is closed again today.

"Aberdeen and Dundee airports on the east of Scotland are open. They've had constant snow over recent days, but to their operators' credit they're open.

"Scots fly to Oslo, Stockholm and Amsterdam in winter in the snow. These airports are open because they're geared up.

"Edinburgh airport spends millions on drop-off charging lanes and ever more shops, but not enough on essential equipment.

"The First Minister's Government is pushing Scotland as a winter-fun destination.

"It's good for tourists, the economy and jobs, but not if they can't get here.

"The Scottish Government has to make sure that all Scottish airports have winter contingency plans. I'm pleased that the First Minister agreed with me that Edinburgh airport can learn from other airports."
