MP Malcolm Bruce has welcomed the announcement that Ellon is to have a new secondary school having campaigned on the need for a new school for many years.
The list of 14 new secondary schools to be built across Scotland was officially announced today (Monday) and included a new academy for Ellon.
Mr Bruce the MP for Ellon said:
"After a hiatus of two years in national new school building projects, I am delighted and relieved that the Government has agreed with local politicians and campaigners that Ellon needs a new secondary school.
"As part of last year's Scottish budget, Liberal Democrat MSPs secured a commitment for a funding stream for the Scottish Futures Trust: I am delighted that this has now borne fruit with this announcement.
"I congratulate the hard work put in by Aberdeenshire council behind the scenes to ensure that this project is viable. There will be difficult decisions to take in this process but it is important that the Council maintains joint control with the Government over costings and financial decisions.
"I look forward to work starting on the new school as soon as possible and hope that the necessary Government funds will shortly be in place for this and the other public investment projects which are vitally needed across the North East."
