Commenting on the news that Kenny MacAskill has written to the UK Armed
Forces Minister inviting him to a meeting to discuss the ongoing issue of the holding of inquiries into the deaths of military personnel on active service abroad, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Alistair Carmichael MPScotland Alistair Carmichael MP said:
"It is welcome that we are at last seeing some progress on this issue.
Scotland Office Ministers tell me that the provision will be included in the Coroners and Justice Bill which is being debated in Westminster next Monday.
"Liberal Democrats shall give close scrutiny to that Bill to ensure that progress is made as quickly as possible. I see nothing in the comments of government ministers, in Edinburgh or London, which would explain the delay. I am, however, delighted that they are acting at last."
