Commenting on the decision by UCAS to raise the value of Scottish qualifications for entry into further education, Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Margaret Smith MSP said: "For years the Scottish education system has been recognised as one of the world's best. But this has not always been reflected in the value given to the qualifications earned by Scottish students.
"Scottish qualifications should in no way be seen as second class. They should not act as a barrier to Scottish students who want to further their education in other parts of the UK or indeed the world.
"Both teachers and students work hard to maintain the reputation of Scottish education and I am delighted that their hard work has been rewarded."
