Liberal Democrat Finance spokesperson Jeremy Purvis MSP has described the Scottish Government's boast that 100,000 pupils will be taken out of crumbling school buildings and enjoy cutting edge facilities by 2011 as "utterly disingenuous".
Commenting, Mr Purvis said:
"It is utterly disingenuous for the SNP to claim that not cancelling school projects started under the Liberal Democrat Executive is the same as them building new schools. The SNP is trying to take credit for the previous administration's school building schemes that are nearing completion.
"The reality is that not one new school programme has been commissioned by this Government because councils still don't know the source of funding for new build schools. The announcement of the Scottish Futures Trust provided no answers and the angry response from councils is wholly understandable."
